There is so much confusion in the market place about the difference between a coach and a consultant. In my experience, a coach is someone who motivates you, holds you accountable and guides you to being the best business owner you can be whereas a consultant, answers your questions, gives you solutions and participates in your business decision making. Which do you need for your business? Or perhaps you need both!
I see frustration arising where a business owner hires a coach but expects a consultant or vice versa. I have found myself in this position also. Be clear about what you need and interview professionals to make sure you are clear about objectives for your work together.
In the world of taxes, you can choose a tax preparer or a tax advisor. A tax preparer is someone who prepares your tax filings, reviews them with you and then files on your behalf. A tax advisor is someone who works alongside you, offering tax strategies, input, analysis and recommendations all year long. There are tax professionals who do both. Be clear when you hire your tax professional about whether you are looking for a preparer or an advisor or both.
If you have any questions at all, be sure to reach out to me. I work with many tax professionals and am always happy to offer an opinion.
And if you’d like an assessment of your current taxes, we also offer that service.
