As a firm owner, who do you turn to as your sounding board when faced with a difficult decision? This may be one of the few benefits of having a partner in your business. Family, spouse, colleagues are not necessarily the best choice here. They have the best intentions but dont wear your shoes or sit in your chair.
Yesterday I spent time on the phone with a client and all I did was listen as she talked through her choices.
In my 12 years running my firm, I turned to my mastermind group members for advice or I walked, let my thoughts settle and somehow the answer always presented itself. Did my choice always work out well? No! But I learned to trust my process and pivot as needed.
My advice for you is dont struggle alone. There are no prizes for going it alone! Reach out. Work with a consultant, an advisor or join a small group mastermind of your peers where you feel trust and value.
My one caution here is to take advice from whence it comes, meaning, know who is giving the advice, what their experience is and how they see the world. Seek out someone with your same life values. Don’t be led astray by advice that does not feel like a good fit for you. Trust your instincts above and beyond.
