I love to browse social media between meetings. Here is what I see…a lot of professionals seem to spend a lot of time networking, breakfast lunch and dinner. I do wonder ……………..what is the ROI on the time and money spent? Or is it just for the optics that social media brings?
I know when I was building my business, I read a book called “Never Eat Alone”. It was all about using meal times for marketing. I did it. It worked. However, through the process, I gained weight and spent a lot of time and money. So does it work? Yes! However, I do recommend you keep an ROI worksheet. Track your time, track your dollars and then track your results.
Networking for networkings sake, in my experience, will not put money in your pocket. Strategic networking is a different strategy with much higher ROI. Strategic by way of who, where and why. Take the time to figure out the best use of your time and money before heading out to “never eat alone”.
And by all means, post on social media!
I work with firms to improve their people and processes and hence their profit. Networking spans people and process and profit!
