I Is now a good time to sell my firm? I get asked this question a lot! My answer is the same for buying or selling a home or getting married or having children or getting a dog (any of lifes big decisions!) – is now a good time for you? There is no “rigfht time” for anyone. The time must be right for you.
If you are waiting to reach a certain client volume or revenue goal, I understand that but dont let that stand in your way if you are emotionally ready to sell now. There are very many different kinds of buyers in the market for firms today so we will always find a match for you. My bigger concern is – are you ready? What do you want next? Do you want to stay on through a firm transition or walk away and travel around the world? For every firm owner I meet, their plans differ. The critical piece is to have a plan.
To sell before you are ready wont work. I have been there and seen this. The timing has to be right for you.
