Good news – the IRS has created a Document Upload Tool. So, should you receive a notice from the IRS, don’t panic! Open the envelope. Take a breath and take a look. What paperwork are they requesting?
Most notices are related to your refund request and or tax credits of some sort (Earned Income Tax Credit/Premium Tax Credit/ Child Tax Credit). More than 500,000 taxpayers each year receive these notices. These requests are easily resolved.
“Send us your documents using the Documentation Upload Tool within 30 days from the date of this notice.” It includes the link and a unique access code. Gather the documents. Ask your CPA for help if you are unsure which documents to send in.
- Open the link in any browser and then input their unique code, their first and last name and their Social Security, Individual Taxpayer Identification or Employee Identification number.
- Securely upload scans, photos or digital copies of documents
- Receive a confirmation that the IRS received documents, and the IRS employee assigned the case can manage the transmitted documents.
And please don’t ever ignore paperwork from the IRS. Most issues are easily resolved. Contact us if you have received a notice and we will help you decide how to address the request.
