It is that time of the year when we not only stress about the upcoming holidays but we ALSO stress about the upcoming tax filings in the spring. December is the month that many people switch accountants or hire an accountant for the upcoming tax season. IF you are interested in hiring a CPA or tax preparer, now is the time to do it. Don’t wait until January or February. By then, most of the good ones are taken. Literally, great tax preparers close their doors to new clients in the new year as they have already committed to existing clients and have the team to support only the clients they have committed to.
When you start interviewing CPA’s, my advice is to listen. Do they ask questions about you or do they just talk about themselves? This is key. In my opinion, you want an advisor who listens to you and is interested in you rather than expousing their own abilities. Also, trust your instincts. If someone gives you a queesy feeling in your stomach, they are not the right fit for you. Much like a doctor or therapist, you need to feel comofrtable and connected to your tax advisor. We always intend for these to be long term working relationships so take your time and be sure before you commit.
Need help deciding? Call me and I will gladly help. I dont file tax returns myself anymore but I advise others on their deductions and I refer people to advisors that I know, like and trust.
