Just yesterday I had to remind a client that she would attract more bees with honey than vinegar. I know its April 2nd and I know the tax deadline is coming but being rude is not likely to get your needs met. You may feel good in the moment, to unleash your own frustration or stress but please remember that if its honey you want, the vinegar wont help you.
By now, many accountants are tired with short fuses and taxpayers are frustrated and anxious about paying the IRS or awaiting refunds that dont come quickly. We get it. We do.
Just know that both sides of the desk will get their needs met by showing kindness and empathy.
So when I ask you to send me documents that I need so that I can help you, please respond in a kind and polite manner. I am not trying to make your life or mine more difficult, I am trying to help you. And if you dont have anything nice to say then as my mother used to advise, dont say anything at all.
And should someone send an email or a voicemail with an unkind tone, dont be shy to simply respond – You will attract more bees with honey than vinegar. Nuff said.
